How 2: Planning Process
Don't be afraid of the planning process! It is designed to assist you in having a successful project. You must use the Planning Process in your STAR event! Please read these tips and the notes (posted as an attachment).
Here are some tips to using it successfully.
Identify Concerns: why are you doing this project/event?
- brainstorm all possible ideas
- list pros and cons for each idea
- evaluate your list and narrow it down to a workable project/idea that interests or concerns the majority or all of your members
- make your decision
Set a Goal: your decision is made, now it is time to set a goal
- be realistic
- make your goal attainable
- set a goal that can be measured or evaluated
- consider all available resources
Form a Plan: decide what needs to be done to reach your goal
- list the abilities, skills and knowledge required
- list all available resources - people, places, publications, and funds
- create a timetable to keep track of progress
Act: this is carrying out your project
- complete your project!
- use all available resources
- Relax! You have planned well!
Follow-up: this should be completed after your project/event is completed
- share your results
- publicize your event
- publicly and privately thank all those who aided in your project
- recognize members you helped
- evaluate your project
- did you meat your goals?
- what went well?
- what could you have improved?
- what would you change if you were to repeat this project/event?
